CROSSCURRENT UNVEILS U.23 CARBON ULTRA RIGID INFLATABLE

Purveyor of Luxury Marine Products and Services Launches Exclusive
New Tender and Support Vessel
Barrington, R.I. – CrossCurrent Marine, a leading global purveyor of luxury marine products and services, announced today the latest addition to its luxury watercraft offerings, the U.23 Carbon. Incorporating a hi-tech design and advanced composite structure, the U.23 is the market’s first rigid inflatable boat constructed of proprietary carbon and Kevlar® epoxy composite. Lightweight and ultra-durable, the U.23 Carbon is well equipped for coastal cruising or excursions in open water. The perfect platform for all types of nautical sports such as scuba diving, fishing, water skiing or wakeboarding, the U.23 is equally suited for relaxation in the sun while moored or at anchor.

Designed for the elite individuals seeking acquisitions of the highest caliber, the U.23 Carbon is the ultimate in luxury inflatables. Capable of achieving speeds of 45-knots, the U.23 maintains stability and a comfortable ride at high speeds under reasonable load and conditions. The craft’s teak deck offers spacious accommodations for sunning, sitting and entertaining. A two-seat driving console with integrated leaning post makes navigation comfortable and fatigue free. The rear seat lounge and leaning post quickly convert to a 3.9-feet wide sun bed, or bench and table for meals, while the front platform extension provides an even more spacious sunbathing area. A teak bow step with an integrated mooring cleat makes boarding and anchoring easy. The U.23 Carbon’s stunning epoxy hard-top arch design offers multiple benefits including sun protection for the captain, an overhead compartment for installing electronics, support for fishing and sun shade poles, mounting for audio speakers and nighttime deck lighting, and a robust mounting point for a wake boarding tow line. The deck of the U.23 slopes rearward for easy cleaning and self-bailing and a telescoping swim ladder is nested under the port platform.
“We are very pleased to add the U.23 Carbon to our exclusive selection of luxury products and services,” said Craig Crossley, president, CrossCurrent Marine. “This craft epitomizes luxury, performance and style. The U.23 Carbon’s innovative design and elite features, as well as its extensive custom options are sure to exceed the expectations of the most discerning boaters.”
The U.23 Carbon features a truly innovative hull design. Its large beam, particularly at the transom, creates a virtual extension in the crafts overall length, as well as increased maximum speed once on plane. The U.23’s relatively vertical bow, not only provides a sharp entry into the water, but also extends its maximum length. Two transverse steps across the bottom of the hull ventilate the wetted surface and reduce friction, improving fuel efficiencies while also allowing for extremely quick planing. All of the U.23’s internal surfaces are coated with EVA foam rubber to minimize vibrations and noise, while also providing cushioned storage. For added convenience, the craft’s driving console opens for easy access to the integrated icebox and tube inflator pump.
Designed to CE specifications, the U.23 is rated to carry a maximum of 5 people in wind conditions not exceeding 42 mph and waves up to 13-feet, and a maximum of 12 people in wind conditions not exceeding 28 mph and waves up to 6.5-feet. The U.23's Hypalon-Neopren tubes are ORCA 1600 DTEX quality, yielding long life and low maintenance. Ensuring design performance and comfort, the tubes measure 1.3- to 1.6-feet in diameter, and feature five independent chambers complete with over-pressure valves. The U.23 has an overall length of 22.6-feet, mean measuring 10.5-feet, and an inside width of 6.9-feet. The U.23 weighs 1,875-pounds without engine, is capable of supporting up to a 250 horsepower engine and can achieve performance speeds of 45-knots. The U.23 has a 52.8-gallon fuel capacity and carries 13.2-gallons of water. The U.23 Carbon is protected by a 5-year hull and tube warranty.
Pricing and Availability:
The U.23 Carbon is currently available for order directly from CrossCurrent Marine, and has a boat and motor starting price of $109,000. A list of custom options is available. FREE BOATU.S. GUIDE TO BUYING AND SELLING A BOAT

Going to the boat show this winter? Have you found a great off season deal on a used boat and want to know if there have been any manufacturer recalls that needed correction or major complaints from other owners? Are you comfortable with the fine print in a sales contract?

The answers to these questions and many more are answered in a free guide, Buying and Selling a Boat, from BoatU.S. Consumer Affairs and available online at http://www.BoatUS.com/guide

The 34-page guide will help prospective boat owners navigate unfamiliar waters and remind the seasoned boat owner of landmarks to steer by and trouble spots to avoid when trading up or selling. Unlike buying an automobile, the guide explains what to look for when buying a new or used boat, such as manufacturing standards, surveys and sea trials. Also likely to be unfamiliar to the new boat owner - and clearly spelled out in the guide - is information on warranties, federal documentation, osmotic blisters, marine insurance and boat loans.

Important information is also included on how to use the BoatU.S. Consumer Bureau's free services, including the boating industry's only Recall Alert Registry that tracks safety defects for new and subsequent boat owners. Also covered is the Association's unique national online complaint database for boats, engines and service providers as well as information on the BoatU.S. dispute mediation program.

For sellers, there's a checklist to help evaluate your boat's condition, information on the pros and cons of selling on your own versus using a broker, and how to write a sales agreement.

BoatU.S. - Boat Owners Association of The United States - is the nation's leading advocate for recreational boaters providing its 670,000 members with a wide array of consumer services including a group-rate marine insurance program that insures nearly a quarter million boats; the largest fleet of more than 500 towing assistance vessels; discounts on fuel, slips, and repairs at over 835 Cooperating Marinas; boat financing; and a subscription to BoatU.S. Magazine, the most widely read boating publication in the U.S. For membership information visit http://www.BoatUS.com or call 800-395-2628.

YACHT HAVEN GRANDE’S FIRST YACHT ARRIVES INTO PORT

CHARLOTTE AMALIE—November 16—Yacht Haven Grande, the Caribbean’s premier luxury mega yacht marina and “playground by the sea? has officially welcomed its first mega-yacht into port, a spectacular 192-foot Lurssen. The arrival marks the beginning of a new era in The Virgin Islands, with the revitalization of the former Yacht Haven property into today’s Yacht Haven Grande.

Yacht Haven Grande has been developed by Island Global Yachting, a subsidiary of Island Capital Group, a New York-based real estate merchant banking firm. Yacht Haven Grande is designed to appeal to the affluent consumer drawn to the boating lifestyle, and includes state of the art docking designed specifically for mega yachts as well as the optimal mix of amenities to accommodate the affluent consumer.

This incredible piece of property, located at Long Bay Harbor, comprises 13.8 acres of upland and 32.6 acres of marina offering amazing amenities ranging from fine dining to superlative shopping to state-of-the-art office space. Yacht Haven Grande will fill the current void between the adjacent cruise ship docks at the eastern end of the harbor and historic downtown Charlotte Amalie.

Yacht Haven Grande will change the face of St. Thomas not only because it will once again attract world-class yachts but it also will dramatically enhance the main cruise ship port which receives more than 2 million visitors annually.

The first retail locations at Yacht Haven Grande are scheduled to open the beginning of December. The property will feature four waterfront dining establishments—Wikked, Fat Turtle, Grand Cru, and Three60. In addition to the restaurants and retail, the property features 12 luxurious three-bedroom waterfront condominiums.

Yacht Haven Grande has recently made presentations at premier international boating events in Dubai, Monaco, Ft. Lauderdale and Fisher Island and is generating much excitement among the yacht owners and crew. The yachting facilities are unparalleled—in-slip high speed fueling, internet connectivity, in-slip used oil and waste removal, and extra-wide fixed docks which allow passengers to disembark comfortably from even the largest mega yachts.

Lexcen and Van Dyck Lauded at Rolex America's Cup Hall of Fame Annual Induction Ceremony

The Rolex America’s Cup Hall of Fame Annual Induction Ceremony, held October 26 at the Union League Club in New York, N.Y., was memorable for its glamorous crowd and for the memories invoked by and about the those who have contributed to the sport. Close to 200 people came from as far away as Australia to laude the late Ben Lexcen (New South Wales, Australia) and as near as New York City to herald the achievements of the evening’s other honoree Stephen A. Van Dyck (Clearwater, Fla., USA). The program featured Halsey C. Herreshoff, president of the America’s Cup Hall of Fame, who presided over the ceremony; John S. Burnham, chairman of the Selection Committee for the America’s Cup Hall of Fame and editor of Cruising World magazine; and keynote speaker Gary Jobson.

The presentation on Ben Lexcen showed TV footage from what is now known as the “Race of the Century? when, in 1983, Alan Bond’s Australia II • designed by Lexcen and skippered by John Bertrand • beat Dennis Conner’s Liberty. At one point in the race it looked as if Liberty had wrapped it up, but when the two boats split tacks on the last downwind leg, Australia II sailed by to victory. It was the first challenger ever to win the America’s Cup, breaking the 132-year-old winning streak. For his triumph, Lexcen was later awarded a Member of the Order of Australia.

Lexcen left school at the age of 14 and discovered boats in the coastal town of Newcastle. Born Robert Miller, he built his first boat at 16, started winning races, and became a sail maker and part-time yacht designer. “When Ben was young, he had a difficult life,? said Carl Ryves, a boyhood friend of Lexcen, who read a speech prepared by his wife Alysoun, also a childhood friend of Lexcen. “We met when I was 14 and Ben was 18. We were great friends. He worked as a railway fitter and turner and was always curious and inquiring. He was self-taught, with very little formal education, but could understand and figure out anything.? Today, Ryves is instrumental in preserving another of Lexcen’s great designs, Taipan, the 18-foot skiff Lexcen conceived, built and sailed in 1959. He brought, from Australia, the rudder which showed that the designer • 23-years-old at the time • had already experimented with hydrodynamic concepts that would culminate with his famous winged keel. Ryves presented this special rudder to the America’s Cup Hall of Fame for the future exhibit about Ben Lexcen’s accomplishments.

Ryves went on to tell the audience how much the America’s Cup meant to Lexcen. “Ben rose from humble beginnings and always said ‘No matter who you are, when you have a dream, you can do it.’ He also said of his participation in the America’s Cup, ‘When I win the Cup I will be free.’ And he did it with the help of the team and all of Australia. He was admired by royalty, captains of industry, and he was free.?

Accepting the induction on behalf of Ben Lexcen was his step-son Chris Wise, who was 16 at the time of the famous match and did not travel to Newport, R.I. “Ben was a great sailor,? said Wise. “He loved his family, loved his three Ferraris. He would get up in the middle of the night to figure something out and could easily solve any problem given to him.? Wise went on to explain what Ben’s induction into the Hall of Fame meant to his family, paraphrasing an old quote, “There are probably a dozen Einsteins who are short order cooks because they are not aware of their potential. He would have been proud to join his fellow Australians in the America’s Cup Hall of Fame.?

Pride also characterized the feelings of Bill Ficker, the skipper of Intrepid in 1970, about inductee Stephen Van Dyck. “We held no tryouts,? said the Hall of Famer. “The youngest crew was 23, Steve was 27. They were all small boat sailors. I wanted to sail a 12 Meter like a small boat, very adjustable and with alert crew. They all had a great attitude and never made a mistake.? Ficker brought along his grandson Tyler so that he could “be part of the greatest fraternity in the world.? As Ficker’s tactician, Van Dyck called the tactics and directed the sail trimmers. This was in part necessitated by Intrepid's deck-sweeping boom (grinders were below deck), which prevented the skipper from seeing to leeward when steering upwind.

Van Dyck epitomized the skilled and successful Corinthian yachtsmen who crewed Cup boats during the 12-Meter era (1958-1987). Peter Wilson, a fellow America’s Cup afterguard crewmember, described Van Dyck’s expertise. “Stephen Van Dyck knew 12 Meters inside and out. He had the incredible ability to understand and implement match racing tactics. Most of what everyone needed to learn, they learned from Steve. He was the perfect #2 to Bill.?

Since retiring from America’s Cup racing, Van Dyck continues to actively race, currently in the singlehanded 2.4-Meter or miniature 12-Meter. “There is no one we’d rather go to sea with,? said Wilson. “Steve is a stickler for careful boat preparation. When designer says make it lighter, he says make it stronger. That is due to what he learned as a disciple of Arthur Knapp and Olin Stephens.?

Upon his acceptance of the induction, Van Dyck said, “This is a fantastic honor. As an aspiring naval architect, to be inducted with Lexcen is an honor. What Ben contributed is remarkable.?

To further illustrate his speech, Van Dyck brought along three props. The first, the Black Diamond hat, of which he recalled: “I stood next to Ficker the entire summer and from this hat came the brilliant ideas that saved Bill’s butt many times.?

The second, the ensign that was displayed on Intrepid, “As the boat crossed the line, I raised this flag,? said Van Dyck. “It still has its original Dacron lines. I present it to the America’s Cup Hall of Fame on behalf of the entire Intrepid team, from whom I stole it after that America’s Cup.?

The third, prop, perhaps the most sentimental for him, his Rolex watch. “I brought my Rolex, from 1964,? said Van Dyck as he showed it to the audience. “At the time, it was known for tradition, passion and quality, and we were presented this watch for winning. It’s inscribed on the back ‘Constellation, SVD’ for me. I never had a moment mean as much to me as this 1964 Rolex, when I was 21. It was then, and still is, the ultimate prize in yachting.?

The 15th Annual America’s Cup Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place in Valencia, Spain in the summer of 2007. For more information, visit www.herreshoff.org, or contact the Herreshoff Marine Museum at P.O. Box 450, One Burnside Street, Bristol, RI 02809-0450, Phone: 401-253-5000, Fax: 401-253-6222.

About the America's Cup Hall of Fame

The America's Cup Hall of Fame was created to honor the challengers, defenders, and legendary personages of the world's most distinguished sporting competition. The present prototype Hall of Fame is located in an historic building on the grounds of the former Herreshoff Manufacturing Company in Bristol, Rhode Island, where yachts were constructed for eight consecutive America's Cup defenses between 1893 and 1934. The Herreshoff Marine Museum, situated on this historic site, operates the America's Cup Hall of Fame.

Commencing with the first induction ceremony in 1993, 64 legends of the Cup have been selected for membership in the Hall of Fame. Candidates eligible for consideration include skippers, afterguard, crew, designers, builders, organizers, syndicate leaders, managers, supporters, chroniclers, race managers, and other individuals of merit. Each nominee is judged on the basis of outstanding ability, international recognition, character, performance, and contributions to the sport. The 21 members of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee bring a wealth of knowledge to the selection process. This illustrious international group is made up of persons intimate with the America's Cup tradition of yacht racing and committed to the integrity of the Hall of Fame. The America’s Cup Hall of Fame is honored to conduct its yearly induction ceremonies in conjunction with Rolex Watch U.S.A.

The America's Cup Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving and demonstrating the influence of America's Cup Competition, for the purpose of education and the inspiration of excellence in the world of yachting.

YACHT TECHNOLOGY AND DESIGN AT SEATEC 2007

Yacht design takes centre stage at Seatec 2007, the international exhibition of ship- and yacht-building technology and subcontracts, due in Marina di Carrara from 1st to 3rd February. As well as Project Island, the exhibition of design firms and designers, Seatec 2007 rewards the world of design with the fourth MYDA – Millennium Yacht Design Award – and the conference about “Technological breakthroughs in materials?.

Seatec 2007, the fifth international exhibition and ship- and yacht-building technology and subcontracting, due in Marina di Carrara from 1st to 3rd February, proves to be, once again, the perfect venue for a factual confrontation of well-established designers as well as being a stepping stone for those beginners who wish to make the most of their creativity in ship and yacht building.

A date not to be missed for design firms and designers working in the marine world, the event has become, since its very beginning, a landmark for the world of design and the most important world-class exhibition in the Mediterranean area in the field of business-to-business fairs.

As well as Project Island, an area in which design firms and designers can showcase their works and meet shipyards managers, Seatec 2007 devotes the opening day to yacht design with the fourth MYDA – Millennium Yacht Design Award – an international yacht design competition, and a conference on “Technological breakthroughs in materials?.

Promoted and organised by CarraraFiere and sponsored by AS.PRO.NA.DI (Association of Yacht Designers), the MYDA award is given to two sections: new units and new designs.
In the new units section, the award is won by the best boat built and completed in 2006, both sail and motor boats, up to 10 metres, 10 to 16 metres, 16 to 24 metres and over 24 metres, respectively .

The new designs section includes, instead, two awards: one for professional designers, one for beginners. The winning designs must be substantially completed but not built yet.

The award-giving ceremony will be held on Thursday 1st February, during the “MYDA Day?, in the presence of the jury, composed of authoritative professionals from the marine, academic, design and industrial world.

The designs that have won the fourth MYDA will be exhibited in the “Abitare il Mare? area, in Hall D, all devoted to yacht design.

After giving the awards and mentions to the winners, the MYDA Day goes on with the conference on “Technological breakthroughs in materials? a more and more pressing subject for designers and naval engineers. Authoritative professionals from the marine, architectural, design and industrial world are expected to attend the conference.

During Seatec 2006, the MYDA award for New Units was won by Marco Croci for the boat Truc 12 by Crus Yachts of Milan and by Andrea Vallicelli for Comet 41 Sport by Comar of Rome and for ISA 120 by Isa Yachts of Ancona, Massimo Franchini from Franchini shipyard of Mondavio (PU) for Francii 63L, Studio Farr Yacht Design and Studio Lazzarini & Pickering of Rome for the boat Roma 85, Carlo Galeazzi for Baia One by Baia Yachts of Naples, Mauro Micheli for Ego 68 by Riva. The New Designs section was won by Valentina Zardi and Marco Santi from Camaiore (LU) in the Beginners category for the design of the catamaran Smarthree, while Marco De Antonio and Christian Hoyos of Ingeyacht Design of Barcelona, Spain, won the Professionals category with the maxi sailing boat Camaleon 100. Special mentions went to Mario Biagi Falci of Fasto, Milan, Franz Moscati of La Mar, Rome, as beginners, and to Filippo Biagi, Francesco Marini and Manfredi Conforzi of Studio Guido Lorenzo Spadolini as professionals.

PREMIERE WESTREC MARINA IN JAMAICA IS RENAMED THE ERROL FLYNN MARINA

In attendance at Westrec Marinas’ open house and reception, celebrity Patrice Wymore Flynn, with her Hollywood flair created attention at The Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show to rename the The Marina at Port Antonio – Errol Flynn Marina. Patrice Wymore Flynn was present at the Westrec booth, designed by IK Designs, and autographed posters of herself and her famous husband for all show attendees who stopped by. Delightfully charming, young at heart and an elegant lady, Patrice still lives today on a 2,000-acre cattle ranch in Port Antonio Jamaica, tending it herself. She recounted the many memories of glamorous life with Errol and reflected that they would be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at this occasion. She related many stories to the press who attended the Open House, including her wedding day in Monaco when all the stores shut down and the entire town celebrated in the streets as a declared holiday by Prince Rainier.

Errol Flynn’s connection with Jamaica began in the 1940s while he was on a sailing trip destined for the Galapagos. A storm blew his boat the Zaca off course to Jamaica and he discovered the northeast coast’s perfect harbor of Port Antonio. This jewel of Jamaica soon became the Flynn’s home for decades and as he wrote in his memoir, “After thirty-seven years of wandering I had found my Grecian Isle.? Westrec’s managed Marina at Port Antonio has now been officially renamed the Errol Flynn Marina, in tribute to the town’s most famous resident. “It’s amazing that even today Flynn’s presence remains an undercurrent in Port Antonio,? said William Tatham, Vice President of Cruise and Marina Operations for The Port Authority of Jamaica. “The renaming of the marina is merely an affirmation of what residents and visitors have known for a long time, that his mystique is still very much a part of the fabric of this part of Jamaica.? Patrice Wymore Flynn, Errol’s widow, made an eloquent statement to the attending press stating, “This endearing tribute to Errol is perfect in so many ways; he loved the sea, and he adored Port Antonio, so this is a wonderful union of his passions?.

Set in the beautifully decorated Ken Wright Cruise Ship Pier next to the Marina, the Errol Flynn Marina is a 32-slip yacht complex that accommodates vessels up to 350 LOA with a maximum depth of 17 feet. It also boasts single and three-phase power and shore storage and is an official Port of Entry with 24-hour Customs and Immigration. Boat repairs and maintenance are available at the full-service boat yard, which features a 100-ton boatlift, the only one of its kind in the Western Caribbean. Now with Norma’s at the Marina full service restaurant, overlooking the marina and Navy Islands, once home to Errol (featured on Conde Nast Traveler’s 2005 Hot List) open in full swing, the ambiance is complete. “It’s like going back in time, a perfect deep water harbor in a perfect setting of ultimate beauty?, stated Westrec Marinas’ Regional Manager, John Louis.

BLUEWATER'S LARGE YACHT SERVICE OFFERS MORE

Bluewater Books & Charts has offered specialized services to the large yacht market for several years now, first through the BICCS (Bluewater Inventory and Chart Compliance Service) Program, which began as an effort to help yachts all over the world keep their British Admiralty charts and professional books updated. Now, with more and more large yachts and superyachts coming to Fort Lauderdale, John Mann and Vivien Godfrey, Bluewater's owners, have recognized the need for a revised and updated plan in order to best serve these customers. We're pleased that the captains and owners of these yachts are enjoying our city, and we want to use our resources in the best way that we can to give them the service they expect, says Mann, who is also a founding member of the United States Superyacht Association.

Under the new program, two of Bluewater's specialized Large Yacht team members will travel to a vessel and take a physical inventory of the vessel's charts, software, electronic charts, professional publications, cruising guides and all other navigational materials. Bluewater will then catalog and maintain the inventory, noting when a particular publication becomes outdated and needs to be replaced or corrected, and taking the appropriate action. Bluewater will also keep track of a vessel's purchases, no matter where the items are bought, and the Large Yacht Team will make informed custom recommendations based on a vessel's itinerary. The cost of the service is based on the level of the program that the yacht's captain selects and the amount and type of inventory that is being maintained.

Over her tenure she is credited with growing BoatU.S. membership from 300,000 members to over 670,000 today, giving the organization a bigger voice on Capitol Hill as well as providing boaters with more valuable benefits. Oakerson said, "Nancy's leadership and creative thinking have been pivotal in growing our membership and ensuring our members continually have new and exciting programs. Her accomplishments have helped ensure our continuing success nationwide and especially with the expansion of our presence in inland waterways and with freshwater boaters."

Michelman said, "Listening to what our members have to say about their own boating experiences, challenges, and needs is my priority. I want to ensure that their voice is heard wherever I go and I promise to take their messages to government, the boating industry and other boating partners."

Michelman is only the association's fourth president in four decades, and when asked about how BoatU.S. has evolved over the years she said, "We started 40 years ago offering services, savings and representation, and our mission is as relevant today as it was back in 1966."

2006 Marine Industry CSI Awards Being Presented at IBEX

The National Marine Manufacturers Association’s (NMMA) Marine Industry Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) program will announce recipients of its 2006 Marine Industry CSI Awards Friday, November 3, in conjunction with the International BoatBuilders’ Exhibition & Conference (IBEX). Winners will be recognized during the IBEX Industry Awards Breakfast, held at the Miami Beach Convention Center. IBEX, which is co-owned and produced by NMMA and Professional BoatBuilder magazine, runs November 1-3, with pre-conference workshops scheduled to begin Tuesday, October 31.

The Marine Industry CSI Awards program recognizes participating companies actively measuring customer satisfaction to pursue continuous improvement. Award recipients achieved and maintained an independently-measured standard of excellence of 90 percent or higher in customer satisfaction over the past year, based on information provided by more than 50,000 consumers purchasing a new boat or engine during the period between July 2005 and June 2006. A minimum of 25 consumer responses are required to quality.

NMMA launched its CSI program in 2001 to provide boat and engine manufacturers with a independently-measured, cost-effective tool to help improve the quality of customer satisfaction in the boating industry. Since the program’s inception, more than 400,000 surveys have been sent out to new boat and engine customers, allowing participating manufacturer companies to monitor customer satisfaction on an ongoing basis, and to benchmark themselves against the industry and their competitors. The program currently has 96 boat and engine brands participating.

The Marine Industry CSI program meets the 2007 model year CSI requirements of the NMMA Boat/Yacht Certification program. For manufacturers that are full participants in the Marine Industry CSI process, the included reporting also fills the dealer level CSI requirements of the Marine Industry Dealership Certification program.

For more information about the Marine Industry CSI program, contact Terry Leitz at (312) 946-6212; tleitz@nmma.org.

Marina Fort-Louis in Marigot to offer free docking during St.Maarten-St.Martin Classic Yacht Regatta October 17,2006 By small font medium font large

Marigot Marina Fort Louis has offered free docking for participating yachts on Friday afternoon and overnight during the upcoming regatta the third week-end of January 2007, regatta officials announced today.
Space for the classics will however be limited due to the high season and long term dock arrangements.

Until today some 15 classic yachts have already registered for the regatta while many others have shown huge interest in participating.
The organization's marketing director is still in the South of France at the moment promoting the event at Monaco and Les Voiles de St.Tropez.

The 150 berth Marina Fort Louis has recently been upgraded with a second "sea wall" in order to protect the docks and yachts better from the swells.
Visiting yachts are now barely moving in the marina, even when huge waves are visible outside Marigot.
The upcoming mega yacht season looks very promising according to Etienne Taquin, the "Capitaine du Port" with many dock spaces already reserved.

Marina Fort Louis has direct access to the sea, where yachts at Dutch side marinas like Ile De Sol or Princess Port De Plaisance need to deal with the Simpson Bay bridge.

The first yachts can be expected to arrive in Marigot during the first regatta leg on Friday January 19, 2007 as from mid day.A Friday Night party will be organized by the regatta organization at the Marina Fort Louis parking lot with a live band on stage, entertainment, food and drinks and a VIP tent for invited guests, yacht owners and press.

The classics will depart Marigot again on Saturday morning for the second leg to Philipsburg.

The regatta will finish Sunday in Simpson Bay.The St.Maarten-St.Martin Classic Yacht Regatta is organized by the St.Maarten-St.Martin Classic Yacht Regatta Foundation and West Indies Events.

ORIGINAL FAIRLINE RETURNS TO THE FACTORY AFTER 39 YEARS

Fairline Boats plc, one of the world's leading luxury motor yacht manufacturers will be restoring an example of its inaugural model, the Fairline 19. She will be returned to her original beauty, ready for the company's 40 year anniversary celebrations in 2007.

Following their UK wide search, Fairline finally found a very early example in Norfolk, which is estimated to have been built in 1968 and would have been bought for approximately £595.00.

Since acquiring the model, Fairline has already set about restoring her sympathetically to her original condition. A number of the employees who helped build her in 1968 are still with the company and have joined a working party to revive her to her youth. Work has also started on the restoration of her engine, a WaterMota, which is currently being refurbished by the same company that marinised it.

The project has received great support from many companies including Sheridan Marine, who are supplying parts; Indespension Trailers, who will provide a trailer for her to tour Fairline's European boat shows during 2007, as well as Bob Knowles Plant Services, who are reconditioning the existing outdrive.

The 19ft boat exemplifies just how far the leading boat manufacturer has come over the past 40 years. In 1963 Jack Newington acquired a cluster of disused gravel pits by the River Nene, creating Oundle Marina, home of Fai rline. Now, in 2006 Fairline has three main shipyards and plans are being made for a new factory in 2007. Examples of the company's growth are astounding. When the 19 was first launched in 1967 the company employed only 14 staff; 40 years later Fairline is both a world leader and a pioneer in the luxury boating market, with an 11 boat range, from 38ft to 74ft, 1200 employees across their Corby, Oundle and Ipswich locations, and a turnover of over £100 million.

The Fairline 19 will be shown for the first time at the forthcoming London Boat Show, which takes place at ExCel during 5th-14th January 2007. The restoration is one of many celebrations that will take place during 2007 to celebrate '40 Years of Fairline'.

Vesper finalist in Superyacht Society Awards

On October 26 in Fort Lauderdale, Yachting Developments Limited of New Zealand will find out if one of its latest launchings, Vesper has won a Superyacht Society Design Award for sailing vessels of 23m to 36m.

IAN COOK of Yachting Developments says the company is thrilled that Vesper is a finalist in the category, and is looking forward to the winner being revealed.

“She is a unique boat and one that our team invested much time and passion in,? says IAN COOK.

Vesper, a 28.8m pilothouse sloop designed by German Frers, was launched in Auckland in November 2005.

The international owner, who oversaw the project through logging on to his private web cam and viewing the yacht during construction by Yachting Developments, selected to work with Yachting Developments because previous projects had proven their ability in detailed finishing skills, workmanship, and ability to work to a tight timeframe. He sought a high performance sailing boat that would retain its value, and placed an emphasis on cruising rather than racing.

The Superyacht Society Awards are described as recognizing ‘the very finest naval architecture, design, interiors, engineering and builds in the yacht industry over the previous year’. If successful, Vesper will join the Dubois 111 foot Silvertip as a contributor to Yachting Developments’ trophy cabinet. There are only five finalists in the category.

US Superyacht Trade Association Formed

LAUDERDALE(press release) - What began as a small group of South Florida superyacht businesses banding together for marketing at the St Maarten Boat Show, has now become the first US trade association dealing exclusively with the superyacht industry, the US Superyacht Association (“USSA?).

The USSA’s mission is, "To Promote the Superyacht Industry of the United States and to serve as its voice."

Membership is open to any US entity with a substantial portion of revenue derived from Superyachts.

“This was long overdue for this country,? says the group’s Chair Karen Dudden-Blake of Palladium Technology, “By most statistics, the majority of superyacht owners are American and the US is home to some of the largest builders in the world.?

Other countries with Superyacht trade associations include the UK, Australia and Italy.

“Initially we will be focusing on helping our members market themselves all over the world,? says one of the USSA’s founders, David Reed who publishes THE TRITON, “Ultimately, we see the USSA becoming a critical mass to address strategic issues that affect the growth of the US Superyacht industry.?

Several members distributed information about the USSA at the Monaco Yacht Show as the start of a membership drive.

Marine Consultant and writer Bransom Bean has been appointed the Executive Director for the group charged with moving the USSA to the next level. “In fact, we we all work as a hands-on team,? he says, “It keeps us lean and focused on the needs of our members.?

GROUNDING OF THE VESSEL CLIPPER LASCO

Fort Lauderdale, FL - Resolve Towing and Salvage, Inc., a division of Resolve Marine Group Inc. (Resolve) along with their teaming partners SvitzerWijsmuller Salvage, mobilized on September 14, 2006 to assist the 170 meter Bulk Carrier, CLIPPER LASCO, which grounded on a protected coral reef off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. The salvage team immediately conducted an assessment of both the vessel and her cargo. This entailed Resolve’s Divers and Marine Biologist conducting dive surveys of the vessel and the coral reef to ensure that the vessel could be removed with minimal environmental impact.

The development of proper engineering and environmental protection plans was a major part of this project with input from the U. S. Coast Guard, the State of Florida, and Broward County personnel as well as representatives from the vessel’s owners. The final Salvage Plan called for lightering 2,000 metric tons of cargo to a barge with ballast concurrently added to keep the CLIPPER LASCO firmly aground until it was time to re-float the vessel.

Upon completion of the lightering operations, Resolve/SvitzerWijsmuller personnel discharged the ballast water as the high tide approached. On September 20, 2006, utilizing three tugs, the vessel was safely re-floated and towed to anchorage to conduct a dive survey to ensure that the underwater hull of the vessel was completely intact. Upon completion of the survey the vessel was safely towed into Port Everglades to complete the discharge of cargo.

In business since 1980 Resolve Marine is dedicated to the preservation of the marine environment and is committed to providing the best salvage, firefighting, wreck removal, and training services to the maritime industry.

Caribbean Real Estate Investment

Finally, a real estate investment vehicle tailored specifically with the needs of the mega-yacht industry in mind.

Yacht Capital Group is the brain child of both yacht industry and real estate professionals. Designed to provide a hands free and secure investment option for yachting professionals with little time to spend managing an investment portfolio.

By consolidating the buying power of its investors, Yacht Capital Group is able to negotiate bulk purchase agreements for real estate assets in strategic Caribbean locations at prices well below market values. The strategy results in built-in profits accruing to our investors even before many of these assets go to market. Investors who might ordinarily not be able to take part in multi-million dollar real estate deals now have the opportunity to participate in large scale real estate transactions.

Yacht Capital Group has developed real estate investment portfolios that combine manageable risk and high reward, with offshore tax advantages but without the time consuming process typically associated with managing real estate. At all times, the security of the investment is assured and protected by the underlying real estate asset.

Investment options are flexible and can be made corporately or personally. At the liquidation of the investment, profit distributions will be made from offshore company accounts or can be rolled over into a new investment at the investor’s sole discretion.

And now, through a strategic alliance with two of Europe’s leading asset management and financial services firms, Yacht Capital Group can offer its investors safe and secure real estate investment opportunities with guaranteed, minimum annual return on investment.

Sachs Warburgh Treuhand KG has been engaged to provide fiduciary oversight of Yacht Capital Group investors’ financial assets. The scope of their engagement includes management of incoming investor deposits, control of distributions based on the Offering Memorandum specifics and ongoing reporting to investors.

Their mission statement is to develop long-term strategies for the protection and maintenance of private investors’ assets by developing reliable and profitable solutions based on sound asset management principles within a legal framework that provides tax protection.

Europa Finanz Gruppe, based in Germany and with offices in Zurich, Dublin and Miami, have been providing quality financial solutions for their clients for 45 years. Based on their independent review of Yacht Capital Group’s proposed investment portfolio, Europa Credit Insurance, a direct subsidiary of Europa Finanz Gruppe, has agreed to insure that Yacht Capital Group investors receive a minimum annual 12% return on their invested capital. In the unlikely event the investment does not deliver a 12% annualized return, Europa Finanz Gruppe will buy back each investors share for the original capital invested plus 12% for each year the investment has been held.

The math is simple. High quality, strategically located real estate assets, hands free investing, independent oversight and protection of investors’ funds and a guaranteed investment return. It all adds up to low risk, high reward, worry free investing. With significant upside potential and a minimum guaranteed return, there’s no better time to invest in Caribbean real estate.
